How to make a lamp with plastic straws

This craft with plastic straws , which reminds me a little lamp by Tord Boontje Garland, is an easy project to make a nice spider. On a free afternoon, these cold and dark winter, you can make this wonderful lamp.

Spectacular, in darkness resembling the explosion of a fireworks display. Palm trees exploding in color dark firmament of our room.

Materials needed:

A roll of 24 gauge wire (0.50 mm).
1 meter 10 gauge wire (3.50 mm).
120 plastic straws.
A lamp, a light bulb and electric wire (you can use any light source lamp not use).
Scissors.

Pliers.

The first task is to cut the straws into unequal segments, discarding the corrugated sections.

With small scissors cutting thin strips go in the straw, leaving in the center a piece of 1 cm untrimmed. No need to be very precise, only produce the greatest number of thin plastic strips leaving an intact piece in the center.

We will pass a wire about 25 cm long in the middle of the straw, fold in half and twist it.

It has to be something like in the picture above. Repeat the operation with all the bits of straw.

Then prepare the thick wire, we have to form a spiral. Winding around a cylindrical object, a pot, a large pot ... we can get the desired shape. With fine wire make a star shape, see the photo above, at one end of the spiral that will serve to hold the socket.

We set the stars of straw, with thin wires that they've been through, all along the spiral shaped with thick wire.

Acoplaremos light source and we list our multicolor spider. Nice and easy huh, I had not the slightest exaggeration.
