Start of 8 threads, cord each cord twice as long as what you want to see the finished product. You can use any number of colors.

The braid in this picture was created with 2mm nylon satin cord and is around an inch wide. It can also be created using the 1mm nylon satin cord - you would get a braid around half an inch wide. You can also use any of the sizes of rayon satin cord ( rattail cord ).
